In the New Year...

we will all want to see endless lists of the best things of 2008. For my part, I'm trying to continue my annual tradition of putting together a best of 2008 CD for my listening enjoyment, but struggling a bit. I'm not sure if my ears were closed this year, perhaps there weren't as many quality albums released as in years gone by, but it still shouldn't be a struggle to put together 60 min of interesting music.

I'm soliciting your feed back, please leave comments with a song or two that you think should be on the 2008 list. Or just start a general discourse on what you really liked this year. I'm working on finding a way to publish track lists from previous CD's, just to give you an idea of what I'm looking for.

Although I appreciate the really awesome deep track, I'm trying to avoid being cooler than thou. Even if a song was a bit overplayed, I'll still pick it if I think it's the best song on the album (or the most enjoyable - see A-Punk). My girlfriend has already suggested (and I have vetoed) "3 or 4 songs from the new Pink album", so don't bother with that one.

Here's what I got so far:

The Roots
Kanye West Champion Flashing Lights Heartless
Lil Wayne Like a Lollipop
Lupe Fiasco Superstar
Hot Chip Hold On Ready for the Floor
MGMT Electric Feel
Matt and Kim Daylight
Vampire Weekend A-Punk
Santogold Lights Out
Brendan Canning
Kevin Drew Safety Bricks
The Walkmen In the New Year
Ras Trent
Fleet Foxes White Winter Hymnal
Rihanna Disturbia
Ne Yo Miss Independent
T.I. Whatever You Like
Kings of Leon Sex on Fire
Leona Lewis Bleeding Love
Coldplay Viva La Vida
Weezer Pork and Beans
Girl Talk
The Black Keys
TV on the Radio Golden Age?
Lykke Li

Multiple songs indicate I haven't decided yet, no song means the same. Let fly with your mockery!

Video of the Day

I saw this video by Matt & Kim on Pitchfork.tv the other day and I thought it was pretty awesome.

I'm always harping on how the music video is the zenith of artistic expression, and how the death of MTV has decreased visability, but videos like this really make me optimistic that music video will resurface and catch the public's fscination again at some point. Also the song is pretty great and very catchy. Also, if you haven't seen it, here is another awesome Matt & Kim video: Yea-Yeah

Historic Walks

Stef and I have started a series of Historic Walks around San Francisco. So far we've done walks in SoMa and around Embarcadero. I've posted some pics from our Embarcadero walk below and I'll try and keep the blog updated as we go.

Name quandry

Welcome to my new blog! peterrwise wasn't my first choice, but 'PeterWise', 'OhsoWise', and every possible variation of 'owlsnest' (incl. post, perch, etc.) were taken. Anyway, welcome to the blog. My goal here is to create a central repository for all things Pete. That way, those who are interested don't have to scour supermarket tabloids to find out the scoop. Check back here for pictures and tales of my latest adventures.
